 Meet the Judges

Dan Petrie is a data journalist with News Corporation. Dan is a former economic data editor with Bloomberg LP where he covered economic, political and financial statistics for the Australia and New Zealand economies.

Dan also worked in Hong Kong as Bloomberg's commodity data editor for the Asia Pacific. Dan has held analyst roles at Macquarie Bank, Teradata, Telstra-PCCW joint venture Reach and British Telecom.


Jacki Steel is the Director Regional Engagement with the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport. With her small team of Regional Leads, Jacki works with innovation and business leaders as part of a network of networks to build capability, information sharing and collaborations across regions and groups to encourage innovation driven growth across the state.

Under Advance Queensland, the Regional Engagement team engages broadly to inspire more Queenslanders to participate in the innovation economy, create value and impact from their ideas and take deliberate action today to make tomorrow better for all Queenslanders. The Advance Queensland programs led by Jacki’s team are the AQ Deadly Innovation Strategy and the Regional Futures initiative.


Danny Maher is the Chairman of Venture Capital Firm 42 Ventures.  Danny has over 25 years of experience in the technology industry, is a successful entrepreneur and an active tech investor. 


Danny has built and exited multiple companies including the NetSar group where he was the only executive shareholder when it sold to Logicalis and most recently founding Software company Opmantek which was sold for $62Million to FirstWave Cloud Technology In January 2022. 


In 2017, Danny co-founded the Gold Coast Innovation Hub, a community-driven organisation that helps entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses. Danny served as Chairman of the organisation for two years and now focuses on it’s investment arm 42 Ventures which he chairs.


Danny was named Australian CEO of the year in 2015.
